Tales From The Watermill- part 2

Updated: Mar 6, 2020

This week, the David Austin roses were planted! The new sofa has arrived and cushions are being made from gorgeous Blendwoth Highland fabrics. The main reception room is finally coming together.

The reception room at one end of the house is a great size & shape with large Georgian Sash window and high ceiling, giving it a more modern look. In this room, we wanted a much more 20th Century Classic feel and found a pair of wonderful 1960’s vintage Italian gold patina Foglio wall lights. The long drapes are a printed green foliage linen found in Provence and that forms the essence of the room.

The Dining room now has a fabulous 19thCentury Somerset Farmhouse dining table with weathered stripped pine top & painted white chunky legs. The curtains are the same chunky herringbone in moss green. There is a high ceiling with central beam running over the table and we have hung two large Russian Industrial pendants with shades of pistachio green and holophane glass. It was really difficult to find wall lights to match industrial pendants but I then discovered Sauna Lights by Thomas Hoof. They are very simple with white ceramic bases and glass dome tops, similar to the ships passage lights I had been considering. The kitchen project will come later as we tie this into the extension with Utility & Boot Room. There is more to come on this.

The Master Bedroom has a wonderful four-meter high, ceiling which my stupendously tall husband absolutely loves. The long curtains are dusty pink French linen and the view overlooks the millpond on one side and the river on the other. We have installed a luxurious twisted natural coloured carpet. We finally managed to get our fabulous Italian designer bed into the bedroom which caused quite a conundrum as it is super king all made on one steel frame. With the help of a delightful retired engineer in the village, we were able to cut through the steel frame and insert an inner box section which allowed us to bolt the frame together, genious! We still had to pass it through an upper window as both the staircases were far too narrow. This made me so happy after weeks of fretting. The second- hand Hope Pendant with its iridescent leaf shapes bounces light around the room.
