Tales From The Watermill Part 4

Low budget Bathroom renovation.

When you are renovating a home it’ s not always possible to find budget for every project as funds often need to be focused in certain areas to gain maximum impact. The bathroom for the Master Bedroom was quite dated but fundamentally everything worked fine it just needed a mini refurb.

The shower cubicle has a chrome frame & a step up shower tray and whilst these could be replaced with new the look would generally be quite similar so it this instance we invested the money in new tiling. Carrara marble tiles from #MandarinStone look fresh & classic and by using large 300 x 600 tiles its quick & easy to refresh this small space. £327 plus tiler for one day. The roll top bath is always traditional in a large bathroom and even though the existing isn’t a high end classic it can still look good. The only problem was that this one was in a copper coloured finish which really wasn’t the look I was after. It took a bit of experimenting with spray paints initially but I then found the best option was a paint suitable for acrylic. I painted the tub exterior a mid-grey and the lions feet a charcoal grey. Once it was all put back together it looks great against the newly decorated blush pink walls.

The existing sink is a lovely old reclaimed vintage basin & pedestal and the look is also vintage so both of the main sanitary-ware items were good just a new loo seat required. This can be quite tricky buying on line as sizes & prices vary hugely and the toilet seats can be made of various materials from a cheap wrapped vinyl, veneered mdf or solid wood. This obviously has an impact on the final look & feel. I can recommend this high quality wooden seat from #Victoriaplumbing #Silverdale dark oak @ £209.

Lighting really can make a bathroom and in this instance, we swapped out the cheap polished chrome wall lights for one of my favourite staples the #ThomasHoof #Saunalight. The dowdy old mirror was replaced with a big halo lit mirror above the basin. Whilst this is really a more contemporary looking piece it can still mix in well with the new look and really gives the bathroom lighting a lift.

Final touches were to add in the same French linen curtains as the Master bedroom, painting the old bathroom cabinet to match the bath and the purchase of a cute little table from #Hayfurniture so that you have somewhere to prop your glass of wine when you are soaking in the bath. Wink!
